A Brief Introduction to ICLC

The Internet Chinese Librarians Club (ICLC) is an Internet-based nonprofit organization.

ICLC is Internet-based, because it does not have a concrete building as its headquarters but will exist as a substantial and significant entity solely on the Internet. Moreover, all its operations, including correspondence, publications and other activities, are conducted mainly on the Internet.

ICLC is a nonprofit organization, for it does not seek any financial gains in all its activities. Rather, it aims at providing an environment wherein we Chinese librarians, at home or abroad, can discuss at ease issues related to librarianship and information science. In other words, we endeavor to make full use of the cyberspace and computer technology to cultivate scholarship among Chinese librarians and information specialists. Through this endeavor, we will be able to contribute our knowledge and insight to the development of librarianship and information science of mankind in general.

ICLC is a literate club, for it lays great emphasis on promoting scholarship. To accommodate our members' research needs and to provide them with various electronic publication channels, we plan to establish, stage by stage, 3 electronic journals.

ICLC is a democratic organization. Any club member is free to voice his or her opinion concerning the operations of the club on our listserv. We welcome our members initiatives and suggestions and will give prompt responses to them. If different opinions exit, we will conduct an opinion-poll on our listserv to seek the majority consensus.

ICLC is also a big family for its members, for we expect that in this common pursuit of ours, a long-lasting friendship among our ICLC members will be nourished and cherished. We also expect that our members will visit each other during conference or vacation time. In other words, we will try our best to arrange accommodations for our members for sightseeing or fun trips. So we can see the whole world at the company of a "family" (i.e., club) member with minimum expenses.

Last but not the least, we will do our best to help library school students to gain their footing in the library and information science profession by way of job consultation and publication assistance.

In the spirit of "All for one and one for all," our Internet Chinese Librarians Club will be sure to flourish.
